 Formulas for Harmonizing

1.   Recipes for treating shaoyang disease by  mediation   

Pathogenic factor is between exterior and interior.

Minor decoction of bupleurum (Xiao Chaihu Tang)

Ingredients:

Bupleurum (Chaihu) 12g

Scutellaria (Huangqin) 9g

Pinellia tuber (Banxia) 9g

Ginger (Shengjiang) 9g

Ginseng (Renshen) 6g

Chinese dates (Dazao) 4

Prepared licorice (Gancao) 5g

Function: Treating shaoyang disease by mediation

Indication: Shaoyang syndrome manifested alternate attacks of chills and fever, stifling sensation and fullness in the chest and hypochondriac region, loss of appetite, irritability, vomiting, bitter taste in the mouth, thin, white tongue fur, wiry pulse   

2. Recipes for regulating the function of the liver and spleen

These kind formulas are composed of drugs for smoothing the liver and strengthening the spleen.

2.1 Powder for treating cold limbs (Sini San)

Ingredients:

Bupleurum (Chaihu) 6g

White peony (Baishao) 9g

Immature citron (Zhishi) 6g

Prepared licorice (Gancao) 6g

Function: Dispersing pathogens and alleviating mental depression, smoothing the liver and regulating the spleen 

Indication:  Cold limbs due to the internal depressed yang-qi which fails to reach the distal parts of limbs, or epigastric distension and distress, stifling sensation   hypochondriac region, loss of appetite, irritability, vomiting, bitter taste in the mouth, thin, white tongue fur, wiry pulse

2.2 Ease powder (Xiaoyao San)

Ingredients:

Bupleurum (Chaihu) 15g

Angelica (Danggui) 15g

White peony (Baishao) 15g

Poria  (Fuling) 15g

Big-head atractylodes (Baizhu) 15g   

Peppermint (Bohe) 3g

Ginger (Shengjiang) 3g

Prepared licorice (Gancao) 15g

Function: Soothing the liver to disperse the depressed qi and invigorating the spleen to nourish the blood

Indication: Stagnation of liver qi and blood deficiency syndrome manifested   stifling sensation and fullness in hypochondriac region, loss of appetite, irritability,   bitter taste in the mouth, disorder of menstruation,  light redness tongue, wiry thin pulse

3.  Recipes for regulating the intestine and stomach

This kind of formulas is used to treat the disorder of gastrointestinal function caused by the invasion of pathogenic factors to the intestine and stomach.

Pinellia decoction for purging stomach-fire  (Banxia Xiexin Tang)

Ingredients:

Pinellia (Banxia) 9g

Dried Ginger (Ganjiang) 6g

Scutellaria (Huangqin) 6g

Coptis root (Huanglian) 3g

Ginseng (Renshen) 6g

Chinese dates (Dazao) 4

Prepared licorice (Gancao) 6g

Function: Regulating the stomach and purging adverse qi, relieving stagnation

Indication:  Stomach qi stagnation syndrome manifested   stifling sensation and fullness in the stomach, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, bitter taste in the mouth, yellow and greasy fur, wiry pulse
