Formulas for treating blood disorder 

1.   Recipes for promoting the circulation of blood and remove stasis  

The group of formulas are composed of the herbs with function of promoting blood circulation to remove blood stasis.

1.1 Decoction for removing blood stasis in the chest (Xuefu Zhuyu Tang)

Ingredients:

Angelica (Danggui) 9g

Chuanxiong 5g

Red peony (Chishao) 9g

Peach kernel (Taoren) 12g

Safflower (Honghua) 9g

Dry rehmannia (Shengdihuang) 9g

Achyranthes (Niuxi) 9g

Bupleurum (Chaihu) 3g

Platycodon Root (Jiegeng) 5g

Fruit of citron or trifoliate orange (Zhiqiao) 6g

Licorice (Gancao) 3g 

Function:  Promoting blood and qi circulation to remove stasis and stop pain

Indication:  Syndrome of blood stasis in the chest marked by long-standing prickly chest pain, purple tongue 

1.2 Decoction of recovery and activating  blood circulation (Fuyuan Huoxue Tang)

Ingredients:

Rhubarb (Dahuang) 12g

Bupleurum (Chaihu) 15g

Angelica (Danggui) 9g

Peach kernel (Taoren) 9g

Safflower (Honghua) 6g

Pangolin scales (Chuanshanjia) 6g

Trichosanthes root (Gualou) 9g

Licorice (gancao) 3g 

Function:  Promoting blood circulation to remove stasis and stop pain,  smoothing liver qi

Indication:  Syndrome of blood stasis in the hypochondria or caused by trauma  

1.3 Decoction of  Invigorating Yang for Recuperation (Buyang Huanwu Tang)

Ingredients:

Astragalus (Huangqi) 120g

Angelica (Danggui) 6g

Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong) 6g

Red peony (Chishao) 6g

Peach kernel (Taoren) 3g

Safflower (Honghua) 3g

Earthworm (Dilong) 3g

Function:  Promoting blood and qi circulation to remove stasis

Indication:   Sequelae of wind-stroke    

1.4 Decoction of warming channels (Wenjing Tang)

Ingredients:

Evodia fruit (Wuzhuyu) 9g

Cinnamon twig (Guizhi) 6g

Angelica (Danggui) 9g

Chuanxiong 6g

Red peony (Chishao) 9g

Donkey-hide Gelatin (E-jiao) 6g

Ophiopogonis (Maidong) 9g

Peony bark (Mudanpi) 6g  

Ginseng (Renshen) 6g

Licorice (Gancao) 3g 

Pinellia (Banxia) 9g

Fresh ginger (Shengjiang) 6g

Function:  Warming the channels and expelling cold, promoting blood circulation to remove stasis  

Indication: Irregular menstruation due to the deficiency-cold  in the Chong and Ren channels and accumulation of stagnant blood 

1.5 Decoction for postpartum trouble (Shenghua Tang)

Ingredients:

Angelica (Danggui) 24g

Chuanxiong 9g

Peach kernel (Taoren)  6g

Dry ginger (Ganjiang) 2g

Licorice (Gancao) 3g 

Function: Warming the channels and expelling cold, promoting blood   circulation to remove stasis and stop pain

Indication:  cold pain in the lower abdomen and retention of lochia after childbirth    

1.6 Decoction of peach seed combination (Taoren Chengqi Tang)

Ingredients:

Peach seed (Taoren) 12g

Rhubarb (Dahuang) 12g

Cinnamon twig (Guizhi) 6g

Licorice (Gancao) 3g 

Mirabilitum (Mangxiao) 6g

Function:  Promoting blood circulation to remove stasis and  clearing heat

Indication: Blood stasis in the lower jiao marked with spasms, distension and fullness in the lower abdomen, increased body temperature at night, incontinent urine and constipation 

1.7 Powder to treat swelling (Qili San)

Ingredients:

Dragon’s blood (Xuejie) 30g

Musk (Shexiang) 0.4g

Safflower (Honghua) 10g

Mastic (Ruxiang) 5g

Myrrh (Moyao) 5g

Cinnabar (Zhusha)4g

Borneol (Bingpain) 0.4g

Catechu (Ercha) 0.75

Function:  Promoting blood  to remove stasis and stop pain and bleeding

Indication: Swelling and pain due to blood stagnation

1.8 Decoction of red sage root (Danshen Yin)

Ingredients:

Danshen (Red sage root) 12g

Sharen (Amomum fruit) 6g

Tanxiang 6g

Function:  Promoting qi and blood circulation to remove stasis 

Indication: Blood stasis in the middle jiao marked  distension and fullness in the upper abdomen

2. Recipes for  stopping bleeding 

2.1 Decoction of small thistle (Xiaoji Yinzi)

Ingredients:

Field thistle (Xiaoji) 15g

Node of lotus (Oujie) 9g

Cat-tail pollen (Puhuang) 9g

Dry rehmannia (Shengdihuang) 30g

Capejasmine (Zhizi)9g

Five-leaf akebia (Mutong) 9g

Bamboo leaf (Zhuye) 9g

Talc (Huashi) 12g

Angelica (Danggui) 9g

Licorice (Gancao) 3g 

Function:  cooling blood to stop bleeding, inducing diuresis to treat stranguria  

Indication:  Stranguria with bleeding due to accumulation of pathogenic heat

2.2 Sophora powder (Huaihua San) 

Ingredients:

Scophora flower (Huaihua) 12g

Biota tops (Zebaiye) 12g

Schizonepeta (Jingjie) 6g

Fruit of citron orange 6g

Function:  Clearing the bowels to stop bleeding 

Indication:  Bloody stool due to heat 

2.3 Decoction of Ass-hide glue and argyi leaf (Jiao-ai Tang)

Ingredients:

Donkey-hide gelatin 6g

Mugwort leaf (Aiye) 9g

Angelica (Danggui) 9g

Chuanxiong 12g

Dry rehmannia (Shengdihuang) 12g

Licorice (Gancao) 6g 

Function: Nourishing blood and removing stasis to stop bleeding and regulate menstruation 

Indication:  Metrorrhagia and metrostaxis due to deficiency blood
