Formulas for regulating the flow of qi

This group of formulas are composed of drugs regulating the flow of qi for the qi movement disorder.

1.   Recipes for promoting the circulation of qi    

This kind of formulas are composed of drugs promoting qi circulation for the qi stagnation.

1.1 Pill for relieving stagnancy (Yueju Wan)   

Ingredients:

Cyperus Tuber (Xiangfu)

Chuanxiong

Atractylodes rhizome (Zangzu)

Capejasmine fruit (Zhizi)

Medicated leaven (Shenqu)

the dose of all the ingredients is equal in amount   

Function:  Promoting the circulation of qi to relieve the stagnation

Indication: Stagnation syndrome 

1.2 Decoction of pinellia and magnolia bark (Banxie Houpo Tang)

Ingredients:

Pinellia tuber (Banxie) 12g

Magnolia bark (Houpo) 9g 

Poria (Fuling) 12g

Ginger (Shengjiang) 9g

Perilla leaf (Suye) 6g

Function:  Promoting the circulation of qi to relieve the stagnation, lowering the adverse flow of qi and resolving phlegm

Indication: Globus hysterics marked by a subjective sensation as if a plum pit is stuck in the throat     

 1.3 Decoction of Trichosanthes and Macrostem with liquor (Hualou Xiebai Baijiu Tang)

Ingredients:

Trichosanthes (Gualou) 12g

Macrostem (Xiebai) 9g

Liquor (30 or 60 ml)

Function:  Promoting the circulation of qi to expel phlegm, dispersing obstruction of chest-yang 

Indication: Obstruction of qi in the Chest  

2. Recipes for lowing the reversed flow of qi 

This kind of formulas are composed of drugs  sending qi down movement for the reversed flow. 

2.1 Decoction of Perilla seed for descending qi (Zuzi Jiangqi Tang)

Ingredients:

Perilla seed (Suye) 9g

Pinellia tuber (Banxie) 9g

Magnolia bark (Houpo) 6g

Purple-flowed Peucedanum (Jianhu) 6g

Cinnamon bark (Rougui) 3g

Angelica (Danggui) 6g

Ginger (Shengjiang) 3g  

Perilla leaf (Suye) 2g

Licorice (Gancao) 6g

Chinese dates (Dazao) 3 pcs 

Function:  Lowering the abnormally ascending qi to  relieve asthma and expelling phlegm to arrest cough

Indication:  Asthma and cough due to excess in the upper and deficiency in the lower

 2.2  Asthma-relieving decoction (Dingchuan Tang)

Ingredients:

Ephedra (Mahuang) 9g

Gingko nut (Baiguo) 9g

Perilla seed (Suye) 9g

Apricot (Xingren) 9g

Pinellia tuber (Banxie) 9g

Coltsfoot flower (Kuandonghua) 9g

Mulberry bark (Sangbaipi) 9g

Scutellaria (Huangqin) 6g

Licorice (Gancao) 3g

Function:  Facilitating the flow of the lung-qi  to  relieve asthma and expelling phlegm 

Indication:  Asthma 

2.3 Decoction of inula and red ochre (Xuanfu Daizhe Tang)

Ingredients: 

Inula (Xuanfuhua) 9g

Red ochre (Daizheshi) 15

Pinellia tuber (Banxie) 9g

Ginger (Shengjiang) 9g

Ginseng (Renshen) 6g

Chinese dates (Dazao) 4 pcs

Licorice (Gancao) 3g

Function: Lowering the adverse flow of the stomach-qi  

Indication: hiccup and vomiting due to stomach-qi adverse flow with qi deficiency 

 2.4 Tangerine peel and bamboo shavings decoction (Jupi Zhuru Tang)

Ingredients:

Tangerine peel (Chenpi)  9g

Bamboo shavings (Zhuru) 9g

Ginger (Shengjiang) 9g

Ginseng (Renshen) 3g

Chinese dates (Dazao) 5pcs

Licorice (Gancao) 6g

Function:  Facilitating the flow of the stomach-qi to stop vomiting 

Indication: hiccup and vomiting due to stomach-qi adverse flow with yin deficiency
